Halloween Weekend

We had a really nice weekend here in the Vander Velde household!
Friday during the day we had our PB&J Halloween Party with friends. It’s always fun to see all the kids together, dressed up and having fun! Before we left for the party I was finally able to get a good picture of Gavin & Grant together in their costumes! A Big 'Pirate' Brother with his Little 'Parrot' Brother;
Friday evening we waited for the arrival of Nana & Grandpa! My mom and dad came to visit for the weekend! Of course they didn’t come empty handed either. They brought with them Halloween baskets for the boys and they were open within 5 minutes of them walking in the door! Saturday morning we headed to Costco, a ritual when my dad is in town, he loves that place! After Costco we headed downtown to the Farmers Market!
We ended the day carving pumpkins with the family. Even Mom and Dad VV came over to help and love on the boys!! Gavin loved it & Grant didn’t know what to think of it. Dave's pumpkin!! This morning before church we headed to Market Street Diner for breakfast. I had the best scrambler with egg, spinach, bacon, feta, parmesan, It was so delish! Mom and Dad VV met us at church and after they came over to give the boys their Halloween Gifts! Our boys have such wonderful, gracious and loving grandparents! Mommy & Daddy got a Halloween present too!!Tomorrow is Halloween!! Gavin gets to wear his Halloween costume to school for their Halloween party, he’s pretty excited. Hopefully we can get some good pictures of our day!
Have a safe Halloween!

7 Months Old

On Saturday Grant turned 7 months old! He is wearing mostly 12 month clothes, some 18 month! To his defense, I dry everything in the dryer, easy on this mom, so we buy bigger just in case shrinkage happens!
He eats 3 solids a day and has 3-4 5oz bottles a day! Soon we will have to buy bigger bottles to fit more ounces, but for now he doesn’t ever finish a 6oz bottle!
If we had to guess we would say sweet potatoes and bananas are his favorite, but he will literally eat ANYTHING you give him! We were at Costco with Mom and Dad VV on Saturday and they were sampling sliced bread with jelly and he ate two whole pieces all by himself!
He sits by himself SO GOOD! He loves to sit and play, I think he sat for a good 30 minutes and played with toys yesterday! He rolls everywhere!
No crawling yet, but he does stick his butt in the air and get on all 4’s and then drops flat on his tummy! He has no separation anxiety, yet! He loves going to the nursery at church, they tell us every time we pick him up that he is so content and good! He will go to anyone who wants him, without a fuss! He is head over heels for Gavin! Just adores him. I think it goes both ways too!

Game Night

We try to get together with a few couples once a month and do Game Night and last night we hosted! We played our usual Catch Phrase and we also played Bop It and Spoons, which if pretty dangerous when you are playing with 8 adults! I went to bed last night at 1am with sore abs from laughing so hard, a sore throat from yelling too loud and feeling like I had 3 too many glasses of wine! It was a lot of fun though and we're looking forward to the next game night.Very happy we got spoons!

Revenge

I love Wednesday evenings! Why? One word…REVENGE! Have you seen it? It’s so good. It’s the one show that Dave and I both love to watch together! We were saying last night that, Emily Van Camp, who plays the main character in Revenge, scares us. Seriously. Watch it. You’ll love it!
Yesterday I tried Grant’s Halloween Costume on him. It was WAY too small! It was size 6-9 and he couldn’t even move in it! I searched and called all over to try and find another lobster costume, but everywhere was all sold out! This was our inspiration;Gavin was going to be a Pirate all along for Halloween this year, so we just decided to have Grant be his parrot! It’s pretty cute, not what I had in mind for his first Halloween, but it’s cute! It ended up working out good because Gavin’s theme for his birthday this year is Pirates!!
I’ll leave you with some resent pictures of the boys! Grant is LOVING puffs!

Date Night

Last night I surprised Dave with a date night. We went to Gander Mtn. Academy! We did the virtual range, it was SO neat & SO real! They also have a Live fire range, but you need to own your own hand gun to do that- so that was out of the question!! We will definitely do it again, maybe next time try the simulators where they put you in real life situation!! This is one of Dave's targets;And...This is one of mine; haha - Let's just say he was better!After that we headed to Fuzzy's Taco Shop for dinner! Both of us had never been there before and it is now a new favorite of ours! YUM. All-in-All, it was a great date night!

It's a good day!

My day started at 6:15 this morning. I heard Grant on the monitor (he slept through the night), Dave in the kitchen, and Gavin playing with Grant in his crib, a normal occurrence lately! As I laid in bed listening to them talk & play together I felt Dave come in, rub my back and whisper sweet nothings into my ear! It was the perfect way to wake up! I then got a sweet email from my Mother-In-Law, an email I’ve seen go around my inbox before and I love every time it does;

Being a Christian is like being a pumpkin. God lifts you up, takes you in, and washes all the dirt off of you. He opens you up, touches you deep inside and scoops out all the yucky stuff-- including the seeds of doubt, hate, greed, etc. Then He carves you a new smiling face and puts His light inside you to shine for all the world to see.
Doesn’t that just put you in a good mood?!
THEN…Caleb arrives and April hand me this beautiful, yummy Oreo Cookie Cupcake from Cupcakes-a-go-go! This is a picture of the cupcake on their website and a description - Oreo cookie cupcake - an entire Oreo Doublestuffed cookie in the middle of a decadent chocolate cupcake, topped it with vanilla cream cheese frosting and a teeny-tiny Oreo on top!
The day can only get better from here! I'm surprising my wonderful husband with a special date night tonight!!
