A friend sent me a book yesterday, The Sleep Sense Program. I read it and we started sleep training with Grant last night! It wasn't easy, but we did it and it worked! Before I start telling you about it let me inform you on Grant's sleeping routine; Every night before bed he gets a bottle, in bed, I know you're not suppose to do that! After his bottle he gets his nuk and either falls asleep or we rub him to sleep. He then wakes up 4 hours later to eat and to have his diaper changed, same routine, and then again in another 4 hours, same routine again! Last night was different; Grant got his bottle before we put him in his crib. We made sure to keep him awake and not let him fall asleep while drinking his bottle. We then put him in his crib, no nuk, and let him fall asleep by himself. He cried for about 30 minutes and then stopped. He layed there for a little bit playing with his ocean aquarium crib toy & then he soothed himself to sleep all on his own! He then woke up at 1:30, we went in there to cover him up and then left. No bottle, nuk or diaper change. He did the same routine, cried for a bit and then soothed himself back to sleep. It won't always be like this, he will learn to fall asleep easily on his own at night, without crying, and stay asleep the entire night!! It takes an average of 5 nights for them to learn how to do it all by themself. This was really hard for Dave & he was totally against it at first, but he agreed to try it & it worked! The author of this book, a professional infant and child sleep consultant, has close to a 100% success rate! The book is really interesting and makes so much sense! I hope every night gets easier for all of us! He woke up this morning bright eyed and happy & so did Gavin;

Here's to hoping night #2 is a success too!
